Curriculum Planning Continued

In my last blog entry I wrote about lesson planning for infants and toddlers today I want to give you an example of a preschool lesson plan.

I am going to pick the theme of Apple Tree. Many times I do this particular theme at the beginning of the school year. I have found the website 123learncurriculum.info to be my best partner in deciding what to do with each lesson plan. As a Parent Aware rated program I have to make sure my lesson plans have something to do with the ECIPs. 123learncurrculum.info helps me with this by having each lesson plan laid out and lets me know which ECIP we are working on. I have the option of tweaking the lesson and adding my own skills and projects to make it my own. However, I can just use their lesson plan instead to make life a little easier, but I have never been known to make life easier for me. J

An example of a lesson plan for my preschool group I start out by using ECIP Domain 1 Social and Emotional Development.

  • I greet each child by name and with a smile
  • I focus on the child’s strengths and successes
  • I show the children I have faith in their abilities. I encourage them to try doing things themselves and provide them with experiences for success

Monday through Frida we always have Circle time. What we do during Circle time depends on the current theme.

These are just a few ideas of lesson plans we can do with each of our themes. Keep in mind when you are planning your activities to leave room for the children to finish. It is ok if you have to move one of your planned lesson activities to the next day so the children have time to finish what they are working on.
